In medical terms, hair loss is known as alopecia, the unexplained loss of hair on your scalp, eyelashes, eyebrows and other parts of the body. However, the reasons can vary from simple and temporary such as vitamin deficiency, genetic factors, stress or the underlying health condition.

On an average, every women has around a hundred thousand hairs on her head. When hair falls out, it is replaced by a fresh hair in the follicle. Sometimes you can notice the large clumps of hair coming out all at once or a gradual thinning on the scalp over time then it’s a good idea to see your doctor.

Causes of Hair Loss in Women’s

Hair loss usually occurs when the cycle of hair growth and shedding is disturbed and the follicle is destroyed and replaced with scar tissue. Though the exact cause of hair fall is not known, but it’s usually related to the one or more factors. The triggers range from a variety of health conditions, stress, lifestyle and genetic factors, hormone imbalances etc.

Stress: It triggers the hair fall problems whenever you experience any kind of physical trauma. A stressful event often disrupts the hair cycle pushing more hair into the shedding phase and thus hair loss becomes more prominent.

Heredity or Genetic Factors

If you come from a family where someone started to have hair loss at a certain age, then you might be more prone to it.  The genetic factors and hormonal imbalances can also lead to the hair loss problems.

Diet & Nutrition

It plays a very important role for maintaining healthy hair. The deficiency of various vitamin and minerals, can reduce vital amino acid and vitamin absorption needed for hair growth and thus causes hair fall.

This implies for all the women who are on birth control pills. These pills can have side effects like hair fall once they stop using it. The same applies with the hormonal pills and therapies, chemotherapy,  diabetic, heart disease and acne medications can cause temporary or permanent hair loss.

  • Protein deficiency
  • Our hair is made of a protein called keratin. If you don’t eat enough protein in your diet
  • then it makes your hair brittle. This inturn, leads to weak strands which fall at an early stage.

Pollutants in Environment

The pollutants in environment can lead to hormonal imbalances that can contribute to hair loss. UV exposure and free radicals can also cause the ageing of the scalp cells and damage the hair shaft.

Low iron diet or the deficiency of iron usually results in anaemia. It can occur due to heavy menstruation or inadequate folic acid in the body. This results in low production of haemoglobin which means less oxygen to your organs. When oxygen does not reach your hair follicles, they tend to be weak and break easily.

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

In this condition, male hormones or androgens are secreted in excess and they form small fluid-like sacs in the ovaries which are known as cysts. These excess androgens can lead to ovarian cysts, weight gain, changes in your menstrual period, infertility, as well as hair thinning. This hormonal imbalance negatively affects your hair growth as well.

Acute or Chronic Medical Conditions

Conditions like diabetes, psoriasis are also responsible for loss of hair in women. The increased blood sugar level negatively affects the body’s circulatory system. As a result, less amount of nutrients and oxygen reach the feet and the scalp areas. It causes poor blood circulation to the scalp, the hair follicles will die resulting in hair loss.

However, the great news for women is hair loss (devastating disorder) can be treated medically or surgically. Hair grafting, also called hair transplant surgery, is a surgical procedure performed for the natural hair restoration. Depending on the type of hair loss, you can get the transplant surgery done which produces a dramatic change in your appearance.
